The Fiji Roads Authority is looking at provisions for taxis at clearway restricted areas.

The clearway restriction management system was introduced so that traffic congestion issues could be addressed during peak hours at certain strategic locations in the capital city.

FRA Chief executive Jonathan Moore says taxi’s need to pick up and drop off passengers even at this restricted clearway locations and they are looking into this.

“We are looking into provisions for Taxi’s, because that is an issue right now to make sure that we are not disadvantaging taxis unfairly. They do have to drop off and pick up. So hopefully over the next couple of months we can get all those things ironed out and then we go into full swing.”

Moore says this is why the Authority has delayed the extension of clearways to other parts of Suva.

The Land Transport Authority says Traffic Infringement Notices are being issued to drivers who don’t adhere to the new system.
