FRA monitors roads

December 16, 2016 12:16 am

Several roads are being monitored for closure due to high levels of flood waters.

Fiji Roads Authority chief executive, John Hutchinson, says the ongoing heavy rain has resulted in flooding and debris are also stuck on roadways and crossings.

Hutchinson says the heavy rainfall is expected to continue throughout the weekend and motorists need to keep a safe following distance, avoid speeding and avoid areas with water over the road.

He says it is important that the public obey road closure signs and not drive into water of unknown depth and current, as this can be life threatening.

Hutchinson says some videos and pictures are going viral on social media of people attempting to cross flooded roads and crossings.

He is urging the public to stay off flooded roadways unless absolutely essential.
