People can expect major improvements in the standards of roads from next year.

The Fiji Road Authority received the biggest allocation of $422 m in next year’s budget.

FRA Change Manager Mark Rudge is happy with the allocation saying they’ll be able to carry out some reforms on the roads.

“I think we are very pleased with the amount that Government has given. I think in time there would need to be more money invested in infrastructure.”

Rudge says new projects earmarked for next year include the Dreketi to Nabouwalu Road, Nadi to Denarau road and Nakasi to Nausori Road.

“There are a lot of smaller projects we are looking at as the Prime Minister have said including $30 m for rural roads, provincial road including roads in the outer island.”

Three New Zealand companies have been hired by the authority to undertake the road works.
