FRA advises caution as roads get affected by rain

December 23, 2015 12:18 am

Fiji Roads Authority contractors are working across the network to repair public transport service routes affected by the current weather.

As water level recedes and roads open up again to travelers, rainfall currently experienced in the Central Division still has some roads and crossings closed.

As a precautionary measure, motorists and members of the public are advised not to cross flooded or swollen streams.

Other prevailing conditions could include slippery road surfaces especially on the unsealed road network and potholes on sealed road surfaces.

In the central division, some roads and bridges are still closed to motorists.
These include Nabena Crossing in Naqali Naitasiri, Vatuwaqa Crossing at Sawani, Wailoa Road, Waiyanitu Road, the Navulokani Road and Waila Crossing in Korovou, which are still under water.

Authorities are waiting for the water level to drop before they are opened again.

The Namado Crossing along the Namosi Road has been washed out and the road is closed until repairs are done.

There is a road seal failure along the Queens Road at Monfort Boys Town outside Lami and a crew is patching the seal.

Members of the public can contact Fiji Roads Authority on 5720 if they have queries regarding roads and crossings that have been closed as a result of the current wet weather.
