FPCL removed 28 wrecks since 2013

From 2013 to date the Fiji Ports Corporation Limited has removed around 28 wrecks from Suva Port’s boundary.

Acting Chief Operating Officer Anare Leweniqila says they’ve recently removed two wrecks from the government shipping services area.

Leweniqila says it took them around three and a half months to remove it.

“Removed this year was the Southern Phoenix. It is well known that it went down in 2017. After exactly two years we had it removed in May by an international salvage company.”

He adds there is a total of 22 wrecks within the Suva boundary whereby 14 wrecks have been identified as priority and 7 as a high priority.
