FPCL board to look at new port development

October 23, 2017 6:23 pm

The Attorney General has asked the board of the Fiji Ports Corporation Limited to seriously look at the new port development.

Aiyaz-Sayed Khaiyum says that they would like Fiji’s ports to have the level of footprint Fiji Airways has.

“We’d like ships to be able to come from different destinations and see Fiji as an attractive destination to be able to fuel, to be able to offload their goods for that to be then transshipped to other parts of the Pacific and indeed hopefully God willing one day to even places like Australia and New Zealand.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says that Fiji has the capacity to do that and they need to be able to invest in that sort of technology and level of efficiency.

Meanwhile, FPCL handed a dividend payout of over $16 million for 2016 to their three shareholders yesterday.
