A four-year-old boy has drowned.

The incident occurred yesterday afternoon at the Waitana River in Tailevu.

The victim resides in Khalsa Road, Nasinu and had accompanied his mother for a swim when the alleged incident happened.

Police say while swimming his mother discovered her son was missing and following a search found him lying motionless near the river bank.

Police investigations continue.

The drowning death toll currently stands at seven compared to eight for the same period last year.
