Four men remanded for alleged drug cultivation

Three men from Kadavu have been charged for their alleged involvement in the cultivation of illicit drugs, while another has been charged with one count of being found in possession of marijuana.

Appearing in the Suva Magistrates Court earlier today, Amani Masikerei, Samuela Natokalau and Viliame Kawa were charged with the unlawful cultivation of 1,440 plants.

The total weight of the suspected marijuana seized was 1,046.8 kilograms.

The case of the three charged with cultivation has been sent to the Suva High court due to the seriousness of the offence.

Meanwhile, the fourth person, Livai Maravu pleaded guilty to possession of 82.9 grams of marijuana.

He’ll be sentenced on February 1st.

The matter has been transferred to the Suva High court to be called on Monday.

The four men are all remanded in custody.
