Fiji’s trade with New Zealand accounts for more than forty percent of all of the Pacific Islands Forum countries.

The trade in comparison is better than other larger markets such as Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Russia and Switzerland.

This is according the New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji Jonathan Curr.

He says trade is not a matter of size but it is about maturity of the relationship and sophistication.

“It demonstrates that our country are so much more important to each other than simply the trade and goods and It recognizes the sophistication and the untapped potential that exists in both our economies. That’s tremendously significant we are together a billion dollar trading relationship.”

Curr highlighted this following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding last Friday to enhance collaboration between the South Pacific Stock Exchange and its counterpart from New Zealand.
