Forty houses were believed to be destroyed by Cyclone Gita in the island of Ono-I-Lau.
This was confirmed to FBC News by the District Representative Noa Mata after the assessment was done by the four village headman today.
Mata says twelve houses were completely destroyed while twenty eight houses were partially destroyed in Matokana, Nukuni, Lovoni and Doi.
Mata says this is one of the strongest cyclone they have come across.
“I am sixty eight now and I think this is the strongest cyclone I face in my whole life, I remember in eighty one sera was there and it was quite strong and a few years back cyclone Tomasi came but I think this the strongest of them all.”
Mata says the details have been sent to the Commissioner Eastern’s Office and the confirmation of this stats is expected to be released soon.
