Former Sun Insurance CEO fails to appear in court

Former Sun Insurance Chief Executive Lolesh Sharma has been charged by FICAC with one count of attempt to undue influence.

It’s alleged that on or about 4th October last year, he attempted to hinder or interfere with the free exercise or performance of the political right of the employees of Sun Insurance Limited relevant to the 2018 General Election.

His case was called in the Suva Magistrates Court today, however failed to appear.

Adish Narayan of AK Lawyers appeared as FICAC served summons to his firm but informed court he received no instruction from Sharma to appear for him.

Narayan said he only appeared in court to protect his firm.

Magistrate Waleen George said the summons are to be served directly to Sharma, however, the FICAC prosecutor informed the court they haven’t been
able to locate him to serve it.

Magistrate George then advised the FICAC to request the assistance of INTERPOL to locate the accused.

The matter has been adjourned to September 3rd.
