Former NFP candidate charged with rape out on bail

The 66-year old former National Federation Party provisional candidate and dentist who is charged with rape appeared in the Suva High Court today.

The accused is charged with one count of rape and it is alleged he raped his sister-in-law in Nasinu on June 28th.

He has been released on a $10,000 bail bond with two sureties and a stop departure has been ordered.

The accused has been asked to submit his passport to the High Court registry in 24 hours and have no direct or indirect contact with the complainant or the witnesses.

He has been ordered to report to Nadi Police Station every Friday and attend all his court cases.

It is alleged the suspect requested the 53-year-old victim whether he could rest at her home after attending a wedding in Suva.

It was revealed earlier in court, that the victim was inside her room when the suspect knocked on her bedroom door and allegedly forced himself on her.

It is also alleged the man assaulted her before raping her as she resides alone.

The victim later managed to free herself and locked herself in the bathroom where she raised alarm.

The case will be recalled on September 11th for plea.
