A 55 year-old retired military officer charged with one count of murder has been granted bail by the Suva High Court.

Wame Waqavanua, allegedly assaulted and murdered 23-year-old Watisoni Rokosawa in Raiwaqa, Suva last month.

Prosecution objected to bail saying there is retaliation from the deceased’s family.

Judge Justice Salesi Temo says this is not established and he has ordered the Prosecution to tell the investigating officer to advise the deceased’s family not to interfere with court proceedings.

Waqavanua is on bail under strict conditions. He has been told not to travel overseas.

It is alleged that the deceased scratched Waqavanua’s new vehicle leading to the assault.
