Former FNU VC in court

Former Fiji National University Vice Chancellor, Ganesh Chand appeared in the Suva High Court this morning charged with one count of Abuse of Office.

It is alleged that while being employed in the public service – Chand approved payments for overseas medical treatment for the former Education Minister Filipe Bole, without the approval of the Fiji National University Council.

Defence Counsel, Devanesh Sharma told the court that there is no personal gain in this matter.

He also mentioned that Bole was also the chairman of the FNU Council at that time when the allegations were put to Chand.

He says he will argue the matter further during the course of the trial

Trial date is yet to be fixed.

The case will be recalled on the 25th of January 2016.
