Former Corrections officers acquitted

Suva High Court Judge, Justice Vincent Perera has acquitted the two former Corrections Officers who were each facing rape charges.

Judge Perera delivered his judgement today agreeing with the assessor’s verdict who had found them not guilty.

Ratu Meli Vatureba and Nasoni Raburau told FBC News outside court after the judgment that they are free and happy about the decision made by the Judge.

Judge Perera highlighted that he found the complainant’s evidence not reliable and acquitted the two men.

Vatureba and Raburau were alleged to have raped a twenty-six-year-old female Corrections Officer on September 17th in 2015 at the Suva Remand Centre premises.
