*The former commanding officer for the Border Police Unit who was handed a suspended sentence after being convicted of one count of failure to render assistance is appealing against his conviction and sentence in the Lautoka High court. *
Pita Keni was sentenced to six months imprisonment which was suspended for three years along with a fine of $500 earlier this year by the Nadi Magistrates court.
Oral submissions were made yesterday and the court will make its decision on whether or not he can appeal in two weeks.
The court heard that between September 2013 and March 2014, Keni, while being a public servant employed by the Fiji Police Force failed to assist FICAC by refusing to provide information relevant to a bribery case against the former Acting Inspector of the Fiji Police Force, Timoci Naulu.
The matter has been adjourned to 15th November.
