Many foreign film makers are taking advantage of Fiji’s 47% tax rebate of films shot here.
For every amount spent by these foreign movie makers in Fiji, 47% of the total money spent is given back to the movie makers.
Film Fiji chief executive Dallas Foon says the film sector contributed to three hundred and sixty-one million dollars’ worth of economic activity last year.
“This year, we have already hosted 56 foreign productions in the country and we have estimated their spend into our country at about $85.4 million already and that will generate about $24 million of economic growth.”
Foon says the revenue was generated from the seventy-four foreign film and TV series’ shot here last year.
He says the film Industry in Fiji has a long way to go and is urging more young Fijians to study in this field so they can be employed in this sector.
