Food security training concludes in Nadi

The first ever regional training of pacific food security cluster coordinators concluded in Nadi today.

Ministry of Agriculture Chief Economist, Vatimi Rayalu, says the training was important for Fiji as we are always vulnerable to natural disasters.

“One of the things we have learned in this training is prior planning, prior information gathering and prior organisation in terms of the resources that need to be mobilized during disasters is very important.”

Rayalu adds the event was designed to improve the skills of regional national Food Security Cluster coordinators with training provided on critical core emergency and to equip them with the expertise required to guide their Clusters before, during, and after an emergency.

The meeting of some 25 representatives from governments, non-governmental and UN organizations, included delegates from six Pacific Island nations.
