Amalgamated Telecom Fiji Holdings Ltd (ATH) will embark on the next stage of growth in the nation of Kiribati.
ATH general manager Ivan Fong says this move is a milestone for the group into international and regional markets.
“They do need service because the service that was in place, if you have been to Kiribati, was virtually nonexistent so it represents very good opportunity indeed for the group. Not a big market or investment but still very good opportunities for us.”
Ivan says given the pace of change they are facing in technology, business, they must continue to adapt to change.
Fong says Fiji is the defecto hub of the South Pacific and over the last two years Fiji has had the connection from Vanuatu to Fiji then Tonga to Fiji via Submarine fibre.
He also mentioned that this year the Samoan Cable Company has agreed to lend Fiji a second international cable which will be a good opportunity for the group.
