The buck stops with drivers and road users.

That’s the response of the Fiji Police Force following the spate of road fatalities.

Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says the answer to preventing the loss of lives is safe driving and sticking to the speed limits.

‘’When we look at the number of road accidents and fatalities it is a major concern because if we look deeper into it, of the 18 road fatalities that we have recorded so far nine of them were a result of speeding and the others were a result of other offenses such as dangerous driving, drunk driving and for us that’s why we always go about for people to adopt a change of mindset and be more serious about the issue of road safety and it can be no longer of the law enforcement agencies’’.

Over the weekend, three people died in road accidents and during Easter weekend, five people lost their lives on the roads.

The Fiji Police Force is concerned with how people are ignoring the law.

The message hasn’t changed, be responsible and always follow the rules.
