August 29, 2018 8:02 pm

President of the Fiji National University Association Ketan Lal is under the spotlight, after students from the University presented a petition to the Attorney General yesterday.

The Petition seeks Lal to clarify the Association’s financial report dating back to three years.

Student’s Rep and final year Law student, Ilisapeci Tunamena claims that Lal has done a lot of things that hasn’t been accounted for.

“We haven’t received any financial report. The financial report should come from FNUSA. We raised that issue up with the registrar and Ketan Lal promised us that he will us the financial report straight after our annual meeting in Ba."

Tunamena further claims that Lal bought some vehicles without their knowledge.

“That is our money and in order for those vehicles to be bought, he should consent us and none of our president from all 10 campuses has come to us students for that matter, and we see a misuse of funds sir. Under the constitution of FNUSA, he doesn’t have any right to do that.”

Tunamena says they need the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption to investigate the alleged misused of funds.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says that they will look into it when they get a formal petition.

“If you present this to us, we can obviously raise it, because this government is obviously the financier of the national university, we can raise it with the VC and the council itself.”

About 700 students signed the petition.

FBC news has sent questions and the claims to Lal and is yet to get a respond.
