September 13, 2018 12:36 am

The Fiji National Provident Fund will visit real estate companies soon to ensure they adhere to the law and deductions are made.

Out of the eighty two registered companies with the Real Estate Board, thirty two have made arrangements with the Fund while fifty two have not.

FNPF Manager Compliance Peni Gonelevu says they have been given until the end of the month to register or face the brunt of the law.

“We will see them individually as agent or employer, they can’t come as a group because the law was already passed in 2011. I think we just need to comply another portion to this is the penalty but we don’t want to look at the penalty now, we want to know the amount deducted to be able for all these workers especially some workers that have left for some other industries.”

Some Real Estate agencies have not been paying workers FNPF for almost six years now claiming they were not aware of the legislation which states companies must comply with the mandatory ten percent deduction.
