FNCDP to Decentralize Services for More Efficiency

The Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons is focused on decentralizing their services.

Executive Director, Dr. Sitiveni Yanuyanutawa says while this has always been part of their strategy, there is more emphasis now following the release of census results.

According to the 2017 census, there are 113, 595 people living with some form of disability or functioning challenge.

“The setting up of the Disability Centre in the West so we’ve already got the one in the North, in Labasa and the way we decentralize the services to be able to cover persons with disabilities in all four divisions in Fiji, we are actually moving that way.”

Persons with disabilities or functionally challenged according to the census questionnaire accounted for 13.7 percent of the population.

Rotuma tops the lists with 330 of their 1580 populace having some form of disability.
