Simplifying scientific terms in weather reports is an area that the Fiji Metrological Services is looking at.

Acting Director Teri Atalifo says this is an issue raised by key stakeholders at the National Climate Outlook Forum underway in Nadi.

Atalifo says they will need to look into the structure of weather bulletins sent out to the public – but also raise awareness on scientific weather jargon so that any Fijian can read and understand weather reports.

“ One of the common issues we usually get is the technicality of the weather bulletins or products that we have, they want us to simplify a little bit more so we are trying our best to simplify our science in the bulletin.”

Other matters to be discussed include the integration of climate information in decision-making processes, identifying measures for stakeholders to mitigate climate impacts and obtain better climate-related outcomes.
