The Fiji Master Builders Association says the younger population will drive construction boom in the country.

Association secretary, Vijay Naidu, says the latest census results point to the growing demand for new housing over the coming years.

The 2017 census shows the median age of the population stands at 27.5 years, which means half the country’s entire population was below that age.

Naidu says with the urban population increasing by just under 70,000 in the last decade, coupled by 69 percent of our population being below the age of 40 they expect increase in demand for better and more residential housing.

He says the another key highlight that FMBA members must seriously consider in their future plans is that 13.7 percent of the population aged three and above have some form of disability.

Naidu says they must incorporate things like access ramps, special parking and other disability friendly provisions within their building designs.
