October 4, 2012 1:21 am

The Nadi River Basin Integrated Water Resources Management Project is installing two sirens to give people enough warning before a flooding occurs.

This siren was being put up at Sikituru village yesterday….and a second siren will be in Nadi town.

The alarms will go off when water levels at the Nadi River reach a critical level.

Project manager Vinesh Kumar says as expected with new equipment – there will be some challenges.

“There are some issues and challenges relating to technology. We are mindful of that. We are also mindful that there is a chance the system might not perform as people are expected. However – this wil be a learning block for us as well.”

Kumar hopes that the people will take ownership of the equipment and look after it well.
