Flood warning now in force

A flood warning is now in force for low lying areas, small streams and areas downstream of Vatukacevaceva station to Rakiraki town.

Residents in Rakiraki have taken to social media to post videos of the flood waters in the town area.

Meanwhile, a flood alert remains in forces for the low lying areas and small streams for Vanualevu, Nothern and Eastern Parts of Viti Levu and is now in force for low lying aeras, small streams and areas downstream of Nasivi station of Tavua Town.

Fiji Meteorological Services Director Ravin Kumar says a heavy rain warning is also in place for Vanualevu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, as well as Kadavu, nearby smaller islands, the Lau group and Lomaiviti.

Kumar says the general public need to regularly monitor the weather reports and take the necessary precautions.

On the situation, an active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain remains slow moving over Fiji and is expected to affect the group until Wednesday night.
