Flood warning in force for low lying areas in Eastern division

A flood warning is in force for low lying areas and downstream of Korovou town and Nabukaluka village to Naqali bridge of the Waidina river.

A flood warning is also in force for the downstream of Sabata station to Navua town of the Navua river.

The Fiji Meteorology Services says this is being caused by a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain lies that’s slow moving over the eastern parts of the group.

A flood alert remains in force for the low lying areas, small streams and areas adjacent to major rivers for the interior and eastern half of Viti Levu, low lying areas and downstream of Nayavu station of the Wainibuka River.

An alert is also in force for low lying areas and downstream of Waimanu river.

Meanwhile, a heavy rain warning remains in force for the eastern half of Viti Levu, Lau and Lomaiviti group, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and is now in force for the southern half of Viti Levu.

A heavy rain alert remains in force for Vanua Levu.

Residents living in the interior and eastern half of Viti Levu (from Rakiraki, Nausori, and Suva to Pacific harbor including the interiors), southern half of Viti Levu (Serua), Lau and Lomaiviti group, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands are advised there will be periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms.

Residents in Vanua Levu are advised there will be occasional rain and few thunderstorms with rain expected to become frequent and heavy from tonight.

Localized heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.
