Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says he believes the mood for change is strong.

He adds the challenge is to find a design that speaks to everyone.

Prime Minister Bainimarama says feedback teams have been visiting a range of communities and the feedback tells them that the Fijian people definitely agree on the need to change the existing flag.

He says they also estimate that Fijians viewed the 23 existing designs more than 70-thousand times on the national flag website and that is actual participation in the process.

Bainimarama says broadly speaking, what the Fijian people are saying is this: Yes, they agree on the need for a new national symbol but want to see a design they like.

He says he passionately believes that we need a national flag with symbols that represent the Fijian spirit today and into the future.

The selection process will end on December 31st and a new flag will be presented next year.
