Five traders are being investigated for non-compliance.
Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission Chief Executive Joel Abraham confirms they have increased their market surveillance with Christmas just around the corner.
Abraham says they have conducted search, and traders continue to breach laws and as a result of these search they have started investigation against five traders.
“In fact we are looking at filing close to five matters in court by the end of next week, it is in its final stages of investigation and reporting and we looking at proceeding to the next action and for us of course legal action is the last resort, we don’t want to just take people to court for the sake of it but if businesses continue to breach and be very difficult in terms of cooperation than of course we have to apply the law to the letter.”
Abraham says they are taking a targeted approach and looking at areas of non-compliance by traders.
