Five students have been awarded scholarships to study in Cuba and they will be joining thirty-four students currently studying medicine there.

Minister for Education, Dr Mahendra Reddy says these students will prove to be a great help in the field with the current demand for medical practitioners in the country.

“Note that we do receive complaints often, we do receive complaints about the delay in patients getting medical attention and it is a result of us not being able to fulfill the required numbers of doctors we have in our hospitals, it is not that we are not investing, we are producing graduates out of our two medical; schools in Fiji but the issues is just not supplying every year.”
