Five sentenced for aggravated burglary and theft

Five people who were convicted of aggravated burglary and theft have been sentenced to more than five years by the Suva High Court.

Jone Vonu, Asaeli Bulitautini, Waisake Loabure, Iosefo Lomaca and Rovereto Tamanivalu committed the offence in Raiwaqa in May last year.

They stole items worth around $20,000.

High Court Judge Justice Salei Temo said that there was breach of neighborly trust and they had preplanned the crime.

Bulitautini and Lomaca had pleaded guilty to the charges while the others pleaded not guilty.

Vonu and Loabure have been sentenced to 5 years and 8 months imprisonment, Bulitautini has been sentenced to 5 years and 6 months imprisonment while Lomaca has been sentenced to 5 years and 10 months and Tamanivalu has been sentenced to 6 years imprisonment.

The Judge has refused to fix a non-parole period.
