Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum hit out at Opposition Whip Salote Radrodro for being selective about expatriate permanent secretaries holding more than one portfolio.

Radrodro had highlighted that of the three expatriates, two are holding two portfolios each.

PS for Civil Service Bernadette Welch is also PS for Forestry while PS for Education Alison Burch is also PS for Youth and Sports.

Sayed-Khaiyum hit out at Radrodro for claiming there were qualified Fijians to hold these positions without highlighting the Fijians currently holding more than one portfolio.

“The PSC is going to advertise it. The PSC is an independent body. Public service commission is the employer of Permanent Secretaries. And it’s provided in the constitution Madam Speaker. "

Sayed-Khaiyum highlighted PS for the Prime Minister’s Office Yogesh Karan is also PS for Waterways, PS for sugar and PS for Immigration.

He adds Agriculture PS David Kolitagane is also the Acting PS for Infrastructure and Transport while PS for Itaukei Affairs Naipote katonitabua is also Acting PS for Fisheries.

There are currently 18 Permanent Secretaries of various ministries in the country.
