Fishermen have have been warned against hunting turtles.

World Wildlife Fund Marine Species Officer Merewalesi Laveti says hunting turtles is illegal.

She says under the current Turtle Moratarium hunting can only be allowed if they’re needed for traditional ceremonies.

The existing Turtle Morotarium, the law that is currently in place has its teeth and we are here as a public to comply to the law in Fiji on the protection of sea turtles.

Last week three turtles were seized in Tailevu and the involved fishermen are being investigated.
