January 24, 2018 12:54 am

The Fisheries Ministry has identified some areas where illegal activities are still being carried out despite the ban on the use of Underwater Breathing Apparatus and harvesting of beach-der-mer and live coral.

Minister responsible, Semi Koroilavesau, says they have received information from neighbouring islands on the issue.

“The North Western part of Vanua Levu and in the North around Macuata and Bua area because there’s a lot of empty pockets or isolated pockets there, they have been carrying out illegal activities. But we are homing down to it and the illegal activities are getting much lesser now because they know we are going around now trying to police all these activities.”
