Fisheries Minister Semi Koroilavesau has outlines three key areas his Ministry will be focusing on in the new financial year.
For the first time the Ministry has received the budget as an independent ministry.
The allocation stands at eighteen point eight million dollars.
“Development of aquaculture which basically is the import substitution we need to do. We are importing 20 million dollars’ worth of prawns and other sea food. I think if we manage our resources well we would be able to make some in road into replacing those import and have that as an import substitution.”
Koroilavesau says they will be establishing inshore fisheries division that will run together with offshore division.
He says they will increase their capabilities surveillance areas.
