First PSC meeting next week

The Public Service Commission will hold its first formal meeting next Wednesday.

Newly- elected PSC Chairman Vishnu Mohan confirmed this to FBC News adding, they will decide their agenda at the meeting.

FBC News understands part of the agenda for the meeting will be the advertisements of Permanent Secretaries positions.

Under the 2013 Constitution, one of the functions of the PSC is to appoint Permanent Secretaries with the agreement of the Prime Minister.

The contracts of current Acting Permanent Secretaries expire at the end of this month.

The PSC will then advertise for positions, conduct interviews then carry out appointments when the contracts expire.

The meeting will be held at the PSC headquarters in Suva.

Meanwhile, the Commission had an informal meeting a fortnight ago to meet with the newly elected members.

The newly appointed members include Bhavna Narayan-a commercial lawyer, Nesbitt Hazelman-CEO for Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation, Businessmen Daksesh Patel and Kalpesh Solaki and USP Academic Dr Akanisi Kedrayate.
