Fiji Police Senior Superintendent Malakai Kivarua has established Fiji’s footprints in a new peacekeeping area in Yemen.

SSP Kivarua previously held the post of Commanding Officer of the Police Special Response Unit before he was appointed the commander to lead a Fiji Police Force contingent to the UN Mission in South Sudan.

He says that more Fijian officers will soon join SSP Kivarua in Yemen following Cabinet’s endorsement in May for the deployment of Fiji Police officers.

Since the Fiji Police Force’s first full UN deployment in 1989, more than 1,500 police officers have served in 18 UN mission areas, with SSP Kivarua’s appointment taking the number of mission areas to 19.
