First ever Rural Water and Sanitation Policy launched

Everyone is entitled to consume quality water as it is their basic human right.

Works Minister Colonel Timoci Natuva made the comment while launching Fiji’s first ever Rural Water and Sanitation Policy today.

Natuva says the new policy will address concerns raised recently on the water quality disparity between urban and rural drinking water.

“Government has made it clear in the roadmap for democracy and sustainable socio economic development that everyone in Fiji should have access to clean water and efficient sanitation. This is the universal norm and I’m happy that this new policy is moving towards that direction.”

The Rural Water and Sanitation Policy also contains roles and functions of various agencies and all relevant stakeholders have been urged to foster partnerships that are critical for the successful implementation of the policy.
