The first batch of Wolbachia mosquitoes have been released today in Tamavua Village, Suva by the Health Ministry.

This is being done to decrease the cases of Dengue fever, Zika and Chikungunya in the country.

This initiative has been carried out under the World Mosquito Program whereby mosquitoes with Wolbachia will not be able to infect a healthy person if it has bitten someone with dengue, zika or chikungunya.
