The Fijian Elections Office transported the first batch of ballot papers from Star Printery in Raiwai, Suva this morning to their secured storage area in Laucala Beach.

Elections Supervisor Mohammed Saneem says the transportation of the 20,000 ballot papers were under heavy police guard and was a successful operation.

Saneem says the tracking mechanisms for ballot papers are transparent and they will ensure they all are properly recorded and accounted for.

He says these sensitive materials are now under guard.

“I was keeping an eye on the protocols that were required to be followed. My staff stuck to the procedures and every ballot box that is being transported was properly recorded, reconciled and accounted for at the delivery as well as in the receipt location. This is sensitive material being transported. There is a huge police presence around sensitive material and we just wanted to mention that we mean business.”

He says they will continue to transport ballot papers as they’re ready and the same protocols will be used.
