Fireworks legislation to be reviewed

The Department of Mineral Resources is looking at reviewing legislation that deals with the use of firecrackers together with the penalties dished out under the Explosive Fireworks Regulation.

Director Mineral Resources Malakai Finau says this is due to concerns raised by members of the public.

The Department says they are now working to ensure this regulation is followed.

“There are some concerns form certain quarters of the community regarding the 365 days that one can use fireworks so will be having our review with relevant stakeholders regarding the time of use and as i mention fireworks are not permitted to be sold to those under the age of 18.”

A penalty of four hundred dollars or six months imprisonment will be given to those who breach the conditions under Explosive Fireworks Regulation.
