Firefighters compete in national fire drill competition

Firefighters from the sixteen fire stations in the country are competing in a skills test for an opportunity to represent the country at the Australian National Firefighting Competition in October.

The first ever national fire drill competition got underway today in Suva with about one hundred firefighters showcasing their skills.

National Fire Authority Chairman Francis Kean says the firemen are tested for their coordination, team work and knowledge of how to use various firefighting appliances.

‘’It enhances the knowledge of staff within the firefighting family, it sharpens their skills sets and most importantly build on moral and spirit decor within the NFA family’’.

The winning team will go back to training to prepare for a similar competition in Australia.

There are also plans to send a team to a similar competition in Singapore towards the end of the year.

The two-day competition ends tomorrow.
