Two children sustained injuries as a result of a house fire last night in Savusavu that has left 17 people homeless.
The two children were initially treated at the Savusavu Hospital before being transferred to Labasa Hospital for further treatment.
The house on Fenton Street on Savudrodro road in Savusavu was a double storey wooden and concrete house which was rented by three tenants and also occupied by the owner.
After 8pm last night, the National Fire Authority was alerted through a call and immediately responded.
When the NFA arrived on the scene, the house was engulfed in flames.
The fire team quickly tried to control the fire with two deliveries of water from their fire trucks and a hydrant supply.
The fire is suspected to have started in another tenant’s house and then spread to the double storey house.
The NFA will soon be conducting its investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
