A four-bedroom corrugated iron and timber house was destroyed in a fire at Vunikavika Settlement in Sigatoka yesterday morning.

Three families who occupied the house managed to escape safely but lost all their belongings in the incident.

The National Fire Authority says the windy conditions caused the fire to spread quickly, but the firefighters managed to contain the fire and save two nearby houses.

In another fire incident, a family lost their two-bedroom house on Saturday in Wainiveidoi, Navua.

The owner was at home with his wife when the fire started but managed to escape safely.

In another incident, a five-bedroom house was destroyed by fire last Friday at Ratu Kadavulevu Road in Visama, Nausori.

It is believed the house was vacant at the time of the incident.

NFA Chief Executive, Puamau Sowane, says three homes have been destroyed by fire within a span of only four days and this raises a lot of concern.

He adds during these difficult times, Fijians should remain vigilant and take fire safety seriously.
