Ana Maivalenisau says the fire started from one of the rooms of the back flat.

She claims that she called the National Fire Authority at around 12.15pm.

“As I went into the room I saw the fire. The fire started from the mattress that was leaning on the wall. I didn’t take my child out. I just ran outside and I started shouting and calling the other tenants.”

Eye witness Abhishek Kumar believes that the power lines to the house were shorting.

“First of all the wire was shorting that’s what I saw first. When I reached there the fire was not that much but they tried to save their stuff but the people on the road told them to come out.”

More than 15 firefighters were called in to assist and stop the blaze from spreading to nearby houses.
