The need to have houses especially old properties properly wired electrically and checked by an expert is critical.
This comes with electrical faults topping the list of the cause of fire incidents in 2018.
National Fire Authority Chief Executive Manasa Lesuma says they’ve noticed that some existing aged building have been wired more than three decades ago and there is a need for them to be upgraded.
“For new buildings yes, we don’t have problems with those because they need to comply to the standards set in the criteria that are now set to ensure that their buildings are complying, but we really talking about the older buildings those that really needed to be upgraded.”
In 2017 there were 150 fire incidents while in 2016 there were 147 cases.
