Electrical faults major cause of fire in 2018

Electrical faults has been identified as some of the major causes of fire last year.
The National Fire Authority confirms that out of 147 fire cases reported in 2018, 53 were from electrical faults which includes usage of faulty electrical appliances.
Chief Executive, Manasa Lesuma says most of the buildings still have old electrical wiring and it needs to be upgraded.
“I think the onus is actually on the property owners to ensure that they upgrade their electrical wiring’s to ensure they have certain breakers and the houses are properly wired since this is one of the main causes of fire.”
The NFA adds another main cause of fire last year was arson.
