Fire leaves Suva family homeless

An early morning blaze has left a family homeless in Raiwaqa, Suva.

Some people were inside the house when the fire around 8am today.
No one was injured.

National Fire Authority CEO, John O’Connor says the authority is concerned about the high number of property fires.

‘’Fifty-one per cent of the fires could be attributed to mere carelessness and that is our main concern because now we are coming into the festive season and the school children are home. From previous experience, December is a period for high fires and we have discussed this with the Police Commissioner’’.

The NFA is trying to determine what started the fire in Raiwaqa this morning.
