Investigations are now underway to determine the cause of fire that destroyed the top floor of a three storey apartment at Kaka Street in Samabula this morning.

FBC News arrived on the scene to find firemen fighting the blaze, preventing it from spreading to the two bottom flats.

The family and homeowners were too distraught to speak to anyone.

It’s understood one person who occupied the top flat made it out just before flames engulfed it.

Witnesses say the National Fire Authority was quick to respond, but by the time they arrived, the flat was fully ablaze.

All its contents were also destroyed.
